City Council Meeting - Oct 19 2020

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is blasting Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy as she called him a "moron" for opposing a mask mandate in the chamber. McCarthy tweeted that the decision to enforce mask wearing has no basis in science. The California Republican claimed it was "conjured up by liberal government officials who want to continue to live in a perpetual pandemic state."       Fully vaccinated Americans going to England won't need to quarantine starting Monday. That's according to an announcement from the UK government. However, testing requirements will stay in place, which include a test prior to departure.       Simone Biles is prioritizing her mental health over the Summer Olympics. The world's number-one women's gymnast announced she will not defend her gold medal in the individual all-around on Thursday after previously withdrawing from the team gymnastics final earlier this week. USA Gymnastics issued a statement saying they "wholeheartedly" support Biles and "applaud her bravery."       A protest against a Texas GOP-led voting bill is happening today. It's called the "Moral March for Democracy" and is being led by former Congressman and presidential candidate Beto O'Rourke. In addition to voting rights, organizers are demanding that Congress end the filibuster and raise the minimum wage to 15-dollars an hour.        ISIS fighters from several countries are moving into Afghanistan. Russia's defense minister said earlier today fighters were coming from Syria, Libya and other nations. This is happening in the middle of the U.S. withdrawing combat forces from the country.        Lollapalooza attendees are gearing up for the music festival this weekend, but organizers have a stern message for them. That message is get vaccinated or get tested multiple times over the weekend. Ticket holders must show a printed copy of their vaccine card, a vaccine record or a negative COVID test taken in the prior 72 hours in order to get in to Lollapalooza.
