City Council Special Meeting - Nov 09 2020

People in North Carolina are being warned they may need to take cover today. Tropical Storm Claudette regained its strength overnight and is inching closer to the state after claiming over a dozen lives in Alabama over the weekend. It's threatening to dump two inches of rain and unleash possible tornadoes before moving out to sea.        The NTSB is in Alabama this morning to help investigate a chain reaction crash that killed nine children. Eight of them were girls from a youth home. They were all inside a van when it caught fire on a wet freeway amid a storm. A man and his baby died in another vehicle.       Passengers flying on American Airlines today will want to call ahead. About 100 flights have already been canceled. It's the third straight day after hundreds of cuts over the weekend. The company blames a staffing shortage and maintenance issues at some of its hubs.       The search is on in Iowa for a man who robbed a gas station and shot a deputy several times. The deputy was flown to a hospital with serious injuries late last night. Police say the suspect took off in a van, was chased by another deputy, then crashed and got out and ran.        Sixty Democrats in Congress are fighting to make sure President Biden can continue receiving communion at church. They all signed a letter after Catholic bishops voted to rethink rules for pro-choice politicians. They say elected officials shouldn't be threatened for their beliefs.       An online shopping frenzy is underway. Amazon Prime Day has kicked off big markdowns on two-million products. Some tech deals include a Sony 85-inch 4-K TV for 18-hundred dollars and more than half off an Acer chromebook. Rival retailers are also launching deals.
