Hello All,
Here is a list of all of the virtual programs happening during February for Black History Month and School Vacation Week 15-19th! We also have a program by the Nature Conservancy on February 10th on Family Friendly Hikes in RI. Families can also make an appointment convenient for your schedule with our Children's Librarian, Ms. Chris, for a personalized storytime. As always, please check back often to view updates on our Facebook page of our weekly programs presented by our Young Adult Librarian, Ed Fuqua, such as Conservations with Ed and Solitaire and Booktalking with Ed and Michaela.
All week long during school vacation week, Make & Take craft bags will be available for preschool to teens. Stop in, say hello and pick up a free craft kit!
Monday Feb 15 3-4pm DOG MAN THE BOOK DISCUSSION
Dog Man The Book Discussion. Be ready to discuss your favorite characters from this popular series. Have drawing supplies ready for our Pictionary and Silly Story games. Trivia and Prizes will be part of the discussion.
Tuesday Feb 16 11am & 4pm STORYTIME
Preschool Storytime is presented at two times. Choose 11am or 4pm. We will go on a bear hunt through the children's library. Act out songs like Wheels on the Bus, and read a few stories with Ms. Chris. Pick up a craft bag in the children's room for extra fun.
Wednesday Feb 17 3-4pm HISTORY OF THE BLACKSTONE CANAL
History of the Blackstone Canal with Mark Mello from the Blackstone River Valley National Historical Park. He will talk about the historic importance of the Blackstone Canal and how the Greater Woonsocket area benefited from the canal. Learn about its influence on the Industrial Revolution. How has fish and fowl thrived today? Program is great for adults and children of all ages.
Thursday Feb 18 4-4:45pm SEA DUCKS
The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management Wildlife Outreach Team presents a fun virtual crash course on Sea Ducks! These unique winter visitors can be found here in RI. DEM will discuss where you can go to see them, and the interesting conservation projects that have focused on sea ducks in RI. Program is great for adults and children of all ages.
Friday Feb 19 3-4pm MOBILE QUEST SCIENCE ADVENTURES
Rapunzel is stuck in her tower. How will she get her ice coffee? In this STEAM adventure you have been assigned a mission. As MQGuiver you will be given a container filled with objects. Can you problem solve in time to get Rapunzel her coffee and save the day. You will be given instructions upon registration as to how and when to pick up your science bag. Wait to open it until the day of the zoom as you will be given further instructions and timer will count down your success!

Short Family-Friendly Hikes and Walks in RI
Wednesday February 10 th at 4pm Via Zoom
Looking for new ideas for places to get outside and enjoy nature with your family during February vacation? Join us for a talk by The Nature Conservancy, one of Rhode Island’s leaders in protecting forests and other green spaces for people and wildlife. This talk will focus on short, easy trails in Rhode Island that are perfect for families to explore.

ONGOING PROGRAMS, HOURS & SERVICES
The Rhode Island History: Industrialization program was built with focusing on Rhode Island history as well as the role of New England during the time of Industrialization and has educational resources for all grades. This program is made possible with a partnership with the Museum of Work and Culture as well as the Blackstone Valley National Historic Parks Service.
Birding and Beyond was built with a partnership between the Woonsocket Library and the Audubon Society of Rhode Island. Both educational programs serve K-12 students.

You will find a link to Beanstack, our online program, where you can participate in reading challenges, video content, activities and more. You will be asked to create a login and password and then you can record your progress and earn online badges.
In addition to this free educational content, the library continues to provide free virtual programs to entertain and educate all ages via Woonsocket Harris Public Library on Facebook and YouTube. We also have Google Classroom videos. document notarizing, photocopying, self-service faxing,
and 30-minute computer use and printing.

House Speaker Mike Johnson needs the help of Democrats to get his foreign aid package across the finish line. Johnson is moving forward with a plan to vote on separate bills to send military assistance to Ukraine, Israel, and U.S. allies in the Indo-Pacific, as well as a bill that includes border security measures. However, several conservatives quickly came out against the plan, arguing border policy changes should be directly tied to any additional funding for Ukraine.
